E Mixolydian is the 5th mode of the A major scale. Both share the same 7 notes — Mixolydian starts on the 5th degree (E) instead of the root (A).
The only difference is the 7th degree. E Mixolydian has a minor 7th (D), while E major has a major 7th (D♯). That flat 7th removes the leading tone and gives Mixolydian a more relaxed, bluesy feel compared to major.
